Our goal is to offer a variety of filters to meet the needs of all members. When we created the list of filters, we did an extensive amount of research online to find out how people feel in their friendships. Body type was a common topic.
Some people expressed they wish they had an accountability partner for a weight-loss journey together. Others (slim and plus-size) are hurt by jokes backhanded comments their friends make about their weight. Some are battling insecurities about their weight and expressed their discomfort being around and taking pictures with a body type different from their own. Others expressed that it would be nice to have friends who could understand and empathize with them.
We hope that everyone will embrace who they are, focus more on the qualities they love about themselves, and do what’s needed to change the things they are unhappy with, where possible. However, we also want to give people the time and space they need, and empower them to make the best decisions for themselves in the meantime.
We realize the many of our members are most likely comfortable having friends of any body type, and we encourage you to indicate that in the body type profile question. If the filter helps just one person, that’s enough for us.
For the reasons we’ve given, ‘body type’ is a question we ask you to complete in your member profile, and a filter on the Member Search page. We hope that answers your question.
